Douai Abbey: The Monastery of St Edmund, King & Martyr

As part of the quatercentary celebrations the Sacristan is hoping to restore a fine cope which was once used at our daughter priory at Malvern a century ago. The main white damask of the cope has deteriorated over time due to various causes. The fine embroideries on it, which feature prominently images of our principal patrons Saints Edmund and Benedict, require only minor repairs, mainly to metal threads. It is hoped to raise £1000 to cover the cost of restoration and so allow the cope to resume its place in the community's worship. Donors will be remembered in a discreet emrboidery on the inside of the cope, that they might be remembered in the community's prayers.

Thanks to two recent, generous donations, £510 has been raised towards the total cost. We are loath to start waving begging bowls, but any donations to the restoration of the patronal cope will be most gratefully received. It is sad to see such a fine vestment languishing for want of repair. Please help us if you can.

Below are pictures of the images on the cope of our two patrons.
