Douai Abbey: The Monastery of St Edmund, King & Martyr
Published by HSK in News · 21 July 2019
» Fr Abbot has been especially busy the last couple of weeks. On 9 July he presided over the abbatial election at Ealing Abbey, where the community duly elected Fr Dominic Taylor as its new abbot. On 17 July he presided over the abbatial election at Stanbrook Abbey, where the community duly elected Dame Anna Brennan as abbess. To both of them we pray: Ad multos annos!

» Fr Abbot has also been in Scotland a couple of times. On 14-15 July he was in Inverness for a meeting of the Fernham Abbey Trust of which he is a Trustee. The Trust kas kindly made a contribution to the costs of repair to the abbey church. A few days later, in company with Fr Edmund, he was in Edinburgh representing the abbot president at the hearings of the abuse enquiry there as they relate to the now-defunct monastery at Fort Augustus.

» On 10 July our novice, Fr Gregory, was granted his third and final perseverance in the novitiate. It remains for him and the community to discern progression to simple vows in the autumn.

» On 10 July, just in time for St Benedict's day, the community was able to undertake a church clean, the first since the damage to the abbey church last December. The scaffolding is now down and the abbey church returned to full use. Hopefully the previous leaks are now repaired as well as the unrecognised dangers in the clerestory remedied, rendering the abbey church in much better condition than before the storm damage.
