Retreat & Back to Normal
» The monastic community's annual retreat took place in the last week of August. Leading our retreat was Abbot Martin of Prinknash, who offered many a nugget of insight.
» Fr Richard was unable to be at the retreat, and sadly in the middle of the retreat his father died. May he rest in peace..
» As of 1 September Fr Oliver will take on the role of guestmaster while remaining bursar. Fr Finbar will have a short break and then begin new work in the monastery.
» On 3 September three nuns from the the Darlington Carmel visited, taking the chance to look over the exhibition on the Antwrep Carmelites currently running in the library. During their visit the Darlington Carmel asked the Douai community to take on care of their archives.
» Fr Louis came for lunch on 4 September, which was a month day. He was looking well and was in talkative form. Please keep him in your prayers.
» Br Andrew Prickett OSB, of Buckfast, arrived on 5 September to make a reconnaissance in preparation for living at Douai in term time while he pursues studies at Oxford.
» The same day the Abbot President's Regimen met at Douai, and for the first time Skype was used to enable Abbot James of Washington and Prior Francis of Buckfast to take part without having to travel to Douai. The reduction in necessary travel for the Regimen will prove a significant economy for the English congregation.
