» In the early morning hours of Saturday, 20 July Fr Boniface Moran passed away. He had been in care with the Grace and Compassion Benedictines in Sussex since last year. He was in his 83rd year, and was well-known to Old Dowegians and to parishioners in several of our parishes, especially in the north-west most recently. The date for his funeral has not yet been decided, but it will be announced on the community's Twitter/X account @douaimonks as soon as it is known. May he rest in peace.
» Last week the community held its annual retreat, a little earlier than usual. It was led by Sr Gemma Simmonds CJ. However, Fr Hugh and Br Aidan were unable to attend, being at Buckfast Abbey for an EBC continuing formation course.
» Br Aidan made his solemn profession in the abbey church before Abbot Paul and the community on 22 June. A full report on the happy day will be in the next edition of The Douai Magazine. To Br Aidan we wish, ad multos annos! You can watch video highlights of the occasion on this page.
» On 21 July Abbot Paul confirmed 15 children at St Elizabeth's, Scarisbrick, and administered to them their First Holy Communion. The weather held sufficiently fine after the Mass to allow for a reception with Fr Hugh in the presbytery garden.
