Under the imprint of Weldon Press, Douai Abbey publishes works of general monastic or historical interest. The press is named after a monk of our community, Dom Benet Weldon (1674–1713), from our days in Paris. He had been annalist of the early years of the English Benedictine Congregation, as well as compiling an important catalogue of the books in our library in Paris. Sadly only some of these books made it to Woolhampton. He was a man of conflicted personality who met an untimely death before reaching 40 years of age, asphyxiated by fumes from the fireplace in his cell.
The community's annual, The Douai Magazine, is published under the Weldon imprint, as are a number of other works listed below. Two books have been published by the Canadian Arouca Press, in association with Weldon Press.
Church historian Fr Peter Phillips has written the first complete biography of Bishop Christopher Butler OSB, one of the most influential Englishmen at the Second Vatican Council. A monk of Downside and later Abbot of Downside and Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster, Butler was a towering figure in twentieth-century Catholic intellectual life.
