Early Lent & Covid-19 Update

Douai Abbey: The Monastery of St Edmund, King & Martyr
Published by HSK in News · 2 March 2020
» On Saturday 21 February Fr Abbot attended the launch at Birkbeck College in London of a new book by Dr Carmel Mangion, Catholic Nuns and Sisters in a Secular Age: 1945-90.

» From 23 to 25 February Fr Abbot visited the north-west brethren in Ormskirk and Scarisbrick, and on the Monday he celebrated the funeral of Angela Brown. He returned in time for the very end of carnival, and Ash Wednesday the next morning.

» In light of the advice received from the bishops' conference regarding the Covid-19 virus epidemic for the time being at Douai the holy water stoups have been emptied, the chalice will not be offered to the congregation at Mass, and the exchange of peace likewise will not be offered at Mass. The abbot and community feel it best to be prudent at this early stage of the epidemic.
