Douai Abbey: The Monastery of St Edmund, King & Martyr
Published in News · 13 December 2020
» On Sunday 6 December Fr Abbot celebrated Mass for the end of time at Winchester College. Our service of the Catholic pupils at Winchester continues to experience some disruption due to Covid but a good number of the boys are making a real effort to get to Mass on the only two occasions this term Mass has been able to be celebrated.

» The next day Abbot Edmund led a Zoom conference for the community on the work of the EBC General Chapter's Agenda Committee, which he chairs. The use of Zoom allowed Abbot Edmund to run things from Rome and also allowed a number of the mission fathers to join in the conference. General Chapter will be held next summer at Douai.

» A significant ocllection of books relating to Malta has been received from Adrian Strickland, an Old Dowegian. The collection will be kept together as a discrete collection in the monastic library.

» The community acknowledges the death in recent days of Anne Kealy, the sister of Fr Finbar. Fr Finbar will travel to Dublin for the funeral and remain with his family for Christmas. Alspo recently dead are long-time Woolhampton parishioner and member of the Douai Singers, Tess Haney; and Margaret Wright, pillar of the Scarisbrick parish and mother of its administrator, Mary Ormsby. May they all rest in peace.

» Finally, a reminder that booking for Christmas Masses is essential this year, due to Covid. You can find details in this flyer.
