A Blessing & a Profession

Douai Abbey: The Monastery of St Edmund, King & Martyr
28 March 2021
» On Friday, 26 March Fr Abbot gave the blessing at the swearing-in of the new High Sheriff of the Royal County of Berkshire, by Zoom. William Hartley Russell is from Bucklebury Manor and a parishioner, and descends from the Winchcombe family of Newbury fame. There were two seventeenth-century  English Benedictine monks of the Winchombe family among his forebears. Fr Alexander was also present for the occasion.

» At conventual Mass the next day our novice, Br Aidan Messenger, made his first profession of vows, for three years. According to our tradition, after professing these vows he was clothed in the monastic cowl. He is from Basingstoke, and his mother was able to present at the Mass in line with the Covid restrictions. Pray for him. Ad multos annos!
