Weldon Press - Douai Abbey: The Monastery of St Edmund, King & Martyr

Go to content
Under the imprint of Weldon Press, Douai Abbey publishes small works of a general monastic or historical interest, under the direction of Fr Hugh. The press is named after a monk of our community Dom Benet Weldon (1674-1713), from our days in Paris. He had been annalist of the early years of the English Benedictine Congregation, as well as compiling an important catalogue of books in our library in Paris. Sadly only some of these books made it to Woolhampton. He was a man of conflicted personality who met an untimely death before he had reached 40 years of age, asphyxiated by fumes from the fireplace in his cell.
The community's annual, The Douai Magazine, is now published under the Weldon imprint. Other works include the guide to the library at Douai Abbey, the catalogue of the Wintour Vestments exhibition held at Douai a few years ago, and the print edition of Weldon's own library catalogue. Two books by Fr Hugh have been published by the Canadian Arouca Press, in association with Weldon Press.
In December 2024, a biography of Bishop Christopher Butler OSB, by Peter Phillips, will be published by Weldon Press. Details can be found by clicking here.
