Douai Abbey: The Monastery of St Edmund, King & Martyr
Published in News · 14 March 2021
» The Douai Magazine covering 2020 is now being distributed to members of the Douai Society and any who have requested copies. As usual it is provided free of charge, which is in part facilitated by those who make donations towards the cost of producing (in-house) and printing the hard copies. These donors are included among our other benefactors for whom we offer Mass weekly. If you would like to make an online donation, and even include, you can use the Dona button on this website and select the Magazine option. For those who prefer a digital copy you can now download one on the Douai Magazine page.

» Fr Hugh's edition of Mgr John O'Connor's amusingly explosive 1939 tract on liturgical reform has now been released, published by Canadian Catholic publisher, Arouca Press. O'Connor, a loyal Old Dowegian, received G.K. Chesterton into the Church. For his part, Chesterton's beloved sleuth, Father Brown, was inspired by O'Connor. The original tract was printed anonymously and circulated privately, prudent given its frequent indiscreet tone, so this is its first public edition, offered here in both hard and soft covers. Fr Hugh has provided an introduction and comprehensive notes to clarify any points that are obscure with the passage of time and memory. Father Brown Reforms the Liturgy can be found at major online and high street bookstores, including Amazon UK and Book Depository. It is a testament to the happy memory of an eminent Old Dowegian.

» In the past week Fr Richard Finn OP and Br Bede Mullens OP retrieved further material from the English Domincan archives which are housed at Douai. Fr Richard's research for a book on the Englosh Dominican province is now entering its final stages.

» In the coming week Douai will be undergoing its quadrennial canonical visitation, led this time by Abbot President Christopher Jamison and Abbot Nicholas Wetz of Downside. Given the restrictions of Covidtide, the non-resident brethren will be interviewed by Zoom. Please keep the community in your prayers this week, and be mindful that because of the visitation some of the brethren may not always be available if you call.
