Tuesday 30 Apr 2024
» We have welcomed a variety of individuals and groups in the guesthouse over the last few weeks, including
- 10 permanent deacons (some accompanied by their wives) from the diocese of Arundel and Brighton,
- the heads of five Benedictine schools (four from UK and one from Ireland),
- the Oxford branch of the guild of vergers (from anglican churches and cathedrals),
- 21 young people organised by YouCAN (Young Catholics Network),
- confirmation candidates from St Elizabeth of Portugal parish in Richmond-on-Thames,
- 18 young people from the Dominican Youth Movement,
- and many others, including a full house for the Holy Week and Easter retreat led by Sr Ann Swailes OP.
» In Low Week Father Geoffrey convened the annual EBC History Symposium which attracted nearly 30 delegates. Talks included recent thinking on the Dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century, and on Catholicism in Scarisbrick, the latter talk by Mary Ormsby, herself a parishioner at Scarisbrick.
» Fr Abbot attended the Low Week meeting of the bishops' conference, which this year was held at Buckfast Abbey.
» Fr Boniface is well settled into the care home at Holy Cross Priory, near Heathfield in Sussex, and enjoys receiving visitors and telephone conversations with friends far and wide.
