Tuesday 28 May 2024
» Sarah Hill, our catering manager, and her staff were delighted to be given 5 stars from the West Berkshire environmental health inspector. Congratulations!

» On 14 May a small group of soldiers from the army's school of engineering (below, with Fr Oliver) came with their chaplain to complete their ongoing project to straighten the gravestones in the monks' cemetery. The community is thankful to them for their attention to detail and their gesture in offering to do this work.

» On 16 May the abbot's council met at the monastery, and then next day the abbey trustees with their advisors.

» Fr Abbot spent last week at a meeting of the Union of Monastic Superiors at Ampleforth Abbey in Yorkshire.

» On Wednesday 22 May the abbey church hosted a Newbury Spring Festival concert by Tenebrae, conducted by Nigel Short. The concert consisted of one work, Path of Miracles by Joby Talbot, an extended composition centred on the pilgrimage to Compostella. The concert was sold out, and the audience applauded the wonderful performance with a standing ovation.
